Famous for its nightly erupting Volcano, The Mirage was the first mega-resort on The Strip—opened by Steve Wynn in 1989. LVB Burger was great for adult milkshakes and fried pickles; and Center Bar for max-relax (it was a must-visit, and we got a $40 souvenier tiki mug celebrating it’s opening).
The tropical/south-seas theme portrayed in the carpeting could be seen (and smelled—it had the best casino scent!) thoughout the casino, convention center, and hotel. Each area had its own take on the style, but still they remained cohesive.
Once The Mirage was sold by MGM to Hard Rock, they updated a few carpets: most notably the contention center, which got an organic marine-coral reef style design. The Mirage closed on July 17, 2024 and is planned to reopen in 2027 as Hard Rock (despite the fact this dated brand has already failed once in Las Vegas).
